Dr Poelina PhD, PhD, MEd, MPH&TM, MA, is a Nyikina Warrwa woman from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. She is an active community leader, human and earth rights advocate, filmmaker and respected academic researcher. Anne is a Professor Senior Research Fellow Co-Chair of Indigenous Studies, Nulungu Institute Research Notre Dame University, and Adjunct Professor and Research Fellow at Northern Institute Charles Darwin University Darwin NT & Visiting Research Fellow ANU Water Justice Hub& Peter Cullen Fellow (2011). Anne is the Murray Darling Basin (MDB) inaugural First Nations appointment to its independent Advisory Committee on Social, Economic and Environmental Sciences (2022), Visiting Research Fellow Water Justice Hub and Member of the Institute for Water Futures, Australian National University, Canberra. In 2017, she was awarded a Laureate from the Women’s World Summit Foundation (Geneva) and in the following year of 2018 she was elected Chair of the Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council. Anne was awarded the Kailisa Budevi Earth and Environment Award, International Women’s Day (2022) recognition of her global standing. Poelina is also an Ambassador for the Western Australian State Natural Rangelands Management (NRM) (2023).
